Google Apps for Education is a cloud based offering that provides students and school staff with access to contemporary digital classroom tools, unlimited online storage for educational data, email service (students only), and a wide range of popular collaboration and productivity tools powered by Google.
These capabilities are provided at no cost to school staff to support teaching requirements.
This quick guide provides you with instructions on how to access Google Apps on your PC, Mac, iPad or Android devices, regardless of location, direct from the cloud.

How do I access Google Apps?

Your Department (staff) / eduPass (student) username has two formats:

  • Simple:
    • Example of staff simple username: 01234567
    • Example of student simple username: abcd1
  • Full:
    • Example of staff full username: 01234567@education.vic.gov.au
    • Example of student full username: abcd1@schools.vic.edu.au

As a general rule, when using a web browser you can use your simple username, whereas when using other apps you need to use your full username (for the first time only).

Access Google Apps using any of the following browsers, from any location, via any device with an internet connection:
■ Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer ■ Safari ■ Chrome

Log in as a staff

1. Open a supported web browser.

2. Go to https://www.edustar.vic.edu.au/google

3. Login with your Department User ID and Password.

Log in as student

1. Open a supported web browser.

2. Go to https://www.edustar.vic.edu.au/google

3. Log in with your eduPass User ID and Password.

After successfully logging in you will be able to access a range of Google Apps for Education tools.

How do I access Google Apps on my iPad?

You can access Google app from a support browser on your iPad, however for a richer user experience, download and install Google app from the iTune App Store.
The following example illustrates how to download and install Google Drive on an iOS device.

1. Open iTune App Store .

2. Search for a Google app by name (eg Google Drive).

3. Install and open the downloaded app to sign in.

4. Type in your Department (staff) / eduPass (student) username and click Next.

5. Re-enter your username and password to login.

6. Tap the icon to start using the new Google app.

How do I access Google Apps on Android?

Drive is a Google online storage service providing users the ability to store and access their data from common internet-enabled devices (eg iPad, Mac, Android devices, PC). As a DET Google Apps user, you are entitled to this service with unlimited storage.
You can generally access your Google Drive from a supported browser. However, by utilising the Google Drive desktop client, you can have a mirror copy of your files locally that are accessible even when you’re offline.

To download and install Google apps from the Android Play Store:

1. Open Android Play Store

2. Search for a Google app by name. eg Google Drive

3. Install and open the downloaded app

4. Sign in using your Department (staff) / eduPass (student) username and click Next

5. Re-enter your username and password to login

6. Tap the icon to start using the new Google app.

How do I install Google Drive on my Windows PC?

2. Click Download for PC.

3. Review the Google Drive Terms of Service, click Accept and Install.

4. Open the Google Drive installation file, if not isn’t already opened, then click Get Started.

5. Enter your Department / eduPass username and click Next

6. Enter your Department / eduPass simple format username and password, then click Log in.

7. Note the folder location where Google Drive will keep your files synced with the cloud, then progress through the wizard to complete the installation.

8. Click Done to complete the installation.

Click the Google Drive shortcut on your desktop to access your local Google Drive folder.

The Google Drive folder is a mirror of your in-cloud Google Drive folder. If you have a large amount of files and folders, please allow some time for the data sync to complete.

How do I install Google Drive on my Mac?

3. Open the downloaded file, drag and drop the Google Drive icon into the Applications folder icon.

4. Double click the Applications icon, then locate and open Google Drive.
If a warning message displays, click Open to continue.

5. Review the Google Drive Terms of Service, then click Accept and Install.

6. Enter your Department / eduPass username and click Next.

Common issues

  • I don’t appear to have access

Ensure your specialist technician has enabled your account for Google Apps.

  • I am unable to access Gmail

Gmail is only available to students. Staff are to continue using eduMail for email communication.
