At Lalor Secondary College we currently offer instrumental music classes in guitar, bass, keyboards, drums and voice to students who have expressed interest and demonstrated a commitment. These lessons are available to all students from Year 7 to VCE and assist in broadening their skills as a musician while nurturing their emotional intelligence.
Lessons are taught by a team of professional musicians and expert teachers who have extensive experience in the music industry, both contemporary and classical. Our team also have experience with elite contemporary and traditional school music programs in Victoria and NSW. Small groups of students are taken from class on a rotating fortnightly basis, so they never miss the same class consecutively and only miss the same period only once per term. These small group lessons allow students to become confident musicians who contribute to school bands, choirs and small groups, as well as becoming confident in solo performances.
Lalor Secondary College has been working towards expanding the Instrumental Music Program to meet the growing demand of our students. We aim to extend the selection of instruments we teach to also incorporate concert band and orchestral instruments. We have invested in state of the art facilities including 13 digital work stations suitable for 26 students and our own Pro-Tools/iMac recording studio to record our first annual CD in term 4 in 2017. This will showcase and celebrate the eclectic talents and diverse artistic culture that bond our school with the broader community every year.
