BOOST is Lalor Secondary College’s reading and writing program. Biweekly lessons focus on learning new vocabulary, developing fluency in reading, and deepening comprehension by talking and writing about our reading.
For 2021, we have added 150 fiction and non-fiction titles to our program. Some of our exciting non-fiction books explain the history of familiar objects, like The Sweet History of Cake. Some tell the story of interesting people, like Usain Bolt: The World’s Fastest Person. Others provide ‘How-to’ advice, like So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star?
Our fiction book genres include realistic, fantasy, myth, mystery, horror, folktale, historical fiction, and science fiction. Some are about engaging characters that face difficult challenges, like in Charging Foul. Others are classic tales like Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves.
