Pastoral Program

Year 7 & 8 Pastoral Program

The Year 7 & 8 students have been looking at the personal and social dispositions or mindsets. These dispositions are essential in enabling students to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively. Part of our focus this year involves students learning to recognise and regulate emotions, develop empathy for others and understand relationships, and to establish and build a framework for positive relationships. Some of the activities to build this awareness is to work effectively in teams and develop leadership skills in and outside of the classroom.

To illustrate some of the work that has occurred for students in the Pastoral Program, enclosed is an outcome (see below) that was achieved in one of our Year 7 classes. Students have been exploring the idea around what it means to have a fixed mindset (closed to new learning opportunities) compared to what it means to have a growth mindset (open to new learning opportunities). The students named their mindsets “Frank” (Fixed mindset) and “Greg” (Growth mindset). The students now have a better understanding of how to approach learning: either with Frank’s fixed mindset, or Greg’s growth mindset. A big shout out to Mrs Carly Ryan who encouraged her students to creatively explore these ideas within the Pastoral classroom.
